Trust Yet Again

Heard Jimmy Wales giving a plug to his new book …

The Seven Rules of Trust
– Why it is Today’s Most Essential Superpower

… on BBC Radio 4 Today this morning.

Trust has been the explicit subject of many posts here up to about 2012, since then it has been subsumed into my “Rules of Engagement” under Respect (Good-Faith / Honest-intentions & Trust).

Mutual good-faith is pretty much the version I use in ongoing dialogues, and Jimmy used good-faith too, and “civility” – much mocked as a sentimental wishfulness by Nick Robinson. But Jimmy is right, as old-fashioned and as difficult as it is to imagine plugging trust back into everyday human-to-human interactions, there can be no progress, only degeneration without it. And remember this is about the default giving of trust, not the earning of it. No amount of evidence can replace lack of trust.

Not seen the “7 Rules” specifically and the book is not actually published yet, but it will be interesting to see how it compares with mine. I trust Jimmy, that’s why I support Wikipedia. Nice guy I shared a lift with a couple of times, when we both worked in a London office near Old Street.
