Just a brief holding post to tie up a couple of incomplete conversations. I’m a fan of David Deutsch generally, and specifically recently his thoughts on optimism fleshed out by his Constructor Theory with Chiara Marletto. He’s posted a few talks and articles recently specifically on what he means by optimism, including this one at … Continue reading “Deutsch Optimism & Systems Thinking”
I hold David Deutsch to be one of the smartest thinkers I know. Deutsch over Rovelli and Carroll “Experience the thrill of the highest level of discourse available on the planet.” Certainly his two books – “The Fabric of Reality” and “The Beginning of Infinity” made huge and permanent impressions. Also his constructor theory – … Continue reading “Deutsch Optimism”
Recent reads of Carlo Rovelli and Sean Carroll have been ultimately disappointing, but don’t get me wrong … Helgoland (2021) – by Carlo Rovelli Staggering Implications – Rovelli Without Whitehead (AJOwens Nov 2021) Mach, Bogdanov, Nagarjuna and Rovelli (May 2021) Classifying an Unread Book (May 2021) and, The Big Picture (2015) – by Sean Carroll … Continue reading “Deutsch over Rovelli and Carroll”
This is from 2005 but a good excuse to update the link to TED.
I’ve been raving about Deutsch’s Fabric of Reality world view, and mentioned that he didn’t play as strongly as expected on his quantum information work. I see he was just last week awarded a prize by The Edge for his pioneering work in quantum computing.
In preparation for writing some synthesis of Davids Deutsch and Chalmers’ work, I was updating my earliest links to quantum information (Deutsch and Josephson), and see that Deutsch’s QuBit Centre for Quantum Computation home page is now a Blog. Intriguing, after my summary of Deutsch’s four main threads in the Fabric of Reality as * … Continue reading “Updating David Deutsch”
I’ve started David Deutsch’s “Fabric of Reality”. From his quantum information work, and his acknowledgements to others like Artur Eckert (sp?) I was execting a dive straight into “here’s why the world is realy made of quantum information” thesis. In fact the introduction is quite refreshing. A review of the philosophy of science and of … Continue reading “Deutsch’s Philosophy”
Many Worlds / Parallel Universes Guru – Dr David DeutschDeutsch shares Josephsons conviction that quantum physics is at the heart of processing and communication of information, but famously created a stir when rubbishing Josephsons suggestion that there was anything credible in paranormal phenomena like ESP that might ultimately be explained by quantum physics or even … Continue reading “Deutsch on Parallel Universes & Quantum Computing”
